About Us

The UC San Diego Liver Imaging Group (LIG) is a multi-disciplinary group of radiologists, imaging scientists, physicists, statisticians, analysts, coordinators, and trainees. Our group has contributed to the development of novel ultrasound and MRI methods for assessing liver fat and fibrosis noninvasively, some of which are now available for clinical care. Our research is supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, the American College of Radiology, medical foundations, scientific societies, and industry. We also serve as an imaging analysis center for multisite clinical trials. We offer training in clinical research to trainees at all levels from high school students interested in internships through faculty at other universities as visiting scholars.

Our lab is a unit within the Department of Radiology at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. The lab is located within the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute where we have access to an on-site state-of-the-art MRI facility, multiple state-of-the-art ultrasound machines, point of care MR and ultrasound devices, and an on-site clinic.

We believe in the open sharing of resources and information and provide free educational lectures and other materials on our Media and Educational Resources pages.
